Voorheesville Farm to School initiative awarded $6,000 in cooking equipment

(December 15, 2011) The Partnership for a Healthier America and their Honorary Chair, First Lady Michelle Obama, have awarded the Voorheesville Farm to School (F2S) initiative with $6,000 in cooking equipment.

"I am delighted to recognize your efforts to promote healthier lifestyles through participation in the Chefs Move! initiative," said Partnership for a Healthier America President and CEO Lawrence A. Soler. "We hope that these resources provide the tools you need to ensure the lasting impact of lessons learned through your participation in the Chefs Move! program and beyond.

Chef Brian Molino and the Voorheesville F2S initiative, a PTO sponsored Garden Project program, are doing just that. Chef Molino's first event with the F2S team was October's Harvest Celebration when he cooked up some delicious offerings from produce harvested by the students in the Blackbird Paradise school garden.

"We hope to use the equipment district wide and afford many opportunities for our students to learn all about healthy cooking," said Tricia Putman, F2S coordinator.

The F2S team is exploring different kinds of activities, including classroom cooking demonstrations, and welcomes ideas. If you have an idea to share with the team, please contact them at VvilleF2S@nycap.rr.com.
