District using 'e-communications' to keep school community up-to-date on
school happenings & events
Google Calendar now available
(August 18, 2011) Voorheesville Central School
District has launched Google Calendar, one of several new communications
initiatives for the upcoming school year, to keep parents and the
community up-to-date on school events and happenings. Also in the works
is an e-newsletter and a district Facebook page.
By replacing the print calendar with the online
calendar, not only will the district be able to provide the school
community with the most current and accurate way to keep track of
district and school meetings, events and other important dates, it will
help the district save on printing and postages costs in this tight
economy.
"Feedback from our communications survey
suggested we could use more ways to communicate about our schools," said
Superintendent Dr. Teresa T. Snyder. "We are excited to be able to offer
multiple ways to better inform the school community of the latest news
and upcoming events within their schools."
The calendar presents events by color code for
each school and the district. It also provides interactive features
allowing users to choose from a drop-down menu of events to select the
specific calendars they wish to view.
In addition, Google Calendar is integrated into
Gmail and interoperable with popular calendar applications, and can be
used on the go with smart phones.
We look forward to announcing the Facebook page
and launching the e-newsletter in the near future.
