District reduces 2010 tax levy to 1.89% increase, sets tax rates

August 18, 2010 – At its meeting on August 16, the Voorheesville Central School District Board of Education approved a tax levy increase of 1.89 percent for 2010-11 which reflects a decrease of $150,000 from what was projected before the May vote. The tax levy for 2010-11 equals $14,927,060.

Because of the changes in the state's equalization rates for each town, the impact of school taxes is felt differently in the three towns--New Scotland, Guilderland and Berne--that make up the Voorheesville School District. The new tax rates are shown as follows per $1,000 of assessed property value and the percent change each represents:

  • New Scotland - $17.91 (4.40%)

  • Guilderland - $19.79 (-2.92%)

  • Berne - $27.15 (-9.07%)

Assistant Superintendent for Business Sarita Winchell explained why school tax bills reflect a rate change different from the school tax levy in her presentation to the board. View Ms. Winchell's presentation [pdf]

Tax bills will be mailed September 1 and are due September 30, 2010 without penalty.

If you have questions, please contact the Business Office at 765-3313 ext. 103 to speak with the tax collector.
