Voorheesville ranks first in Business Review's annual school
district rankings
June 29, 2010 – The Voorheesville Central School
District was named the #1 top-performing school district by The Business
Review in the Albany-based newspaper’s June 25, 2010 edition.
Voorheesville ranked first out of 85 school districts in the 11-county
Capital Region. Last year, the district ranked second.
"Once again Voorheesville demonstrates the commitment to high quality
expectations. We want our students to perform to the best of their
ability and to recognize that we are about more than scores," said
Superintendent Dr. Teresa Thayer Snyder. "We expect to develop
contributing citizens of good character. Our students work hard,
perform good work for the community, and understand this community's
expectations. This ranking is a tribute to them, their teachers,
and their families. We are all in this together."
The Business Review uses data from the New York State Education
Department to rank each district. The data include student performance on state assessments and
Regents exams in English Language Arts, social studies, science and
math. They also take into account the percentage of students who
graduate with a Regents diploma or a Regents diploma with advanced
designation and the percentage of seniors who plan to attend college or
some other form of post-secondary education.
