Middle School Student Council plants a little peace

(May 12, 2010)—The Middle School Student Council
held a Peace Pole "Planting" Ceremony on Friday, May 7. The pole was
planted just outside the front entrance of the Middle School.
Peace Poles are handcrafted
monuments, that have been planted all over the world (including one at
the United Nations headquarters), as a way of spreading a message of
commitment to peace.
Alana Fiero, an 8th-grade student and
Character Education Liaison for the Middle School Student Council,
assisted with planting the peace poll. According to Mrs. Jessica
Bradshaw, Student Council advisor, Fiero and former Middle School
Principal Mrs. Kennedy started gathering information about a Peace Poll
last year.
"Despite Mrs. Kennedy's retirement,
Alana diligently worked on getting a Peace Pole to our school," said Mrs.
Bradshaw. "It would not have been purchased without her attention to the
matter."
Principal Brian Whitley and Mrs.
Kennedy joined the school's Student Council for the ceremony.
