(May 26, 2010) The 2nd annual Mr.
Voorheesville competition offered residents and students with an evening
full of fun, music and entertainment, as a group of tenth- through
twelfth-grade boys vied for the title.
Students competed in talent, informal wear and formal wear categories,
and were evaluated by a panel of judges, including Miss New York 2009 Alyse Zwick. Members of the audience were also able to add their
popular votes. Business Teacher Heather Garvey was Master of Ceremonies
for the second year.
Ultimately junior Greg Frering was selected as the winner and "our
knight in shining armor" -- this year's theme. Frering played the cello
for his talent.
Senior Pat Soloviev won the talent portion by playing the piano blindfolded. Popular vote winner (our Mr. Congeniality) was sophomore
John David Springer who demonstrated his skateboarding skills for his
talent.
"The event was a great success. Our judges said their smile muscles
hurt!," said event coordinator and volleyball coach Sandy Vorse. "I
would like to thank the entire community for their support. Each
contestant was wonderful and we appreciate them volunteering their time
for our cause. Ms. Heather Garvey was amazing again as our MC, not an
easy task. We are so lucky to have her involved. Also, a special thank
you to our volleyball parents. They are extremely supportive and helped
make the event possible."
The event was sponsored by the girls’ varsity volleyball team and the
SADD club. Money raised from ticket sales will go towards funding summer
camp scholarships for the students, funding for the girls’ volleyball
summer team camp and SADD activities.
"Hopefully you will see the results of the volleyball team attending
team camp this fall when we begin the climb to the sectional
competition," added Vorse.
