Sixth graders enjoy day of medieval
culture

(May 5, 2010)—Voorheesville Middle
School's sixth graders got a taste of medieval culture recently.
On Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April
23, the sixth-grade class participated in its 16th annual Medieval
Feast. The program is an interdisciplinary event in which the kids are
immersed in medieval culture. They investigated alchemy, performed
medieval math, read middle age literature, and examined medieval
culture. They dance, read, wrote, drew, thought, and had fun.
The event culminates with a costumed
procession to the middle school gym (the great hall!) where the kids
dine ala kings and queens, lords and ladies, and peasants and serfs.
"It was a fun couple of days for
everyone involved," said Mr. Glisson. "We also collected food for the
New Scotland food pantry to think about the less fortunate during a time
when we were feasting."
