Garden Project presented "The Great Plate" Wellness Assembly, March 25
(March 31, 2010)-Voorheesville Elementary's kindergarten through second grade students
were treated
to "The Great Plate" assembly on March 25. The assembly
featured "The Great Plate" way of eating through 3-D exhibits that highlighted
the difference between nutrient-rich and nutrient-poor foods, showed the
benefits of whole grains versus processed grains and revealed the foods
that come from each part of a plant. Garden volunteers were available
to answer students' questions. A large-group presentation illustrating
healthy eating habits using the plate method followed. The assembly
culminated with students "creating" a nutrient-rich meal on a paper
plate to share with their classmates and discuss at home with their
families.
"We are delighted to be able to work with the faculty to promote healthy
eating habits and lifestyle choices," said Bri McAlevey, chair of the
Garden Project. " This is just one of the ways the Garden Project is
able to fulfill it's mission."
