(June
9, 2010) Mr. Mark Diefendorf, Principal of the
Clayton A. Bouton High School, has announced
that Cassandra Pease has been honored for
her exemplary volunteer service with the
President's Volunteer Service Award.
The President's Volunteer Service Award
recognizes Americans of all ages who have
volunteered significant amounts of their time to
serve their communities and their country. It is
presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community
Awards program on behalf of President Obama.
Pease participated in the Spirit of Community
program this year as a representative of the
Clayton A. Bouton High School. She earned this
award by volunteering as an assistant instructor
at Capital Northeast Taekwondo where she taught
Taekwondo to both children and adults. In her
application, Pease stated that, "Just as my
instructors watched me advance, I am watching
people I taught advance. It is the greatest
feeling in the world when your student has
reached their goal and I know that I helped them
achieve (it)."
Sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership
with the National Association of Secondary
School Principals (NASSP), the Prudential Spirit
of Community Awards program recognizes young
people across America for outstanding community
service activities. More than 275,000 young
people have been considered for these awards
since the program began in 1995. Volunteer
activities were judged on criteria such as
personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact
and personal growth.
Pease plans to study Nursing at Marie College in
the fall.
