April
23, 2009 – Clayton A. Bouton High School has named Fannie Liu as
valedictorian and Siana Jannesari as salutatorian for the Class of 2009.
"Fannie and Siana are both fantastic students who
have managed to successfully maintain a balance between academics,
extracurricular activities and community service,” said Clayton A.
Bouton High School Principal Mark Diefendorf.
Valedictorian Fannie Liu

took 14 Advanced Placement and Honors courses and had a four year
average of 97.58, but also participated in numerous extracurricular
activities. She has been designated a National Merit Scholarship
Commended Student, as well as an AP Scholar with Honors.

amongst students while raising money to support research for cures of
life threatening disorders. Liu designed a t-shirt for AIDS awareness
and donated $650 in proceeds to the amFar Foundation for AIDS Research.
She is a member of the history club and will
participate in the New York State History Day competition in Cooperstown
in May. Liu has also been an active member of the school newspaper, "The
Helderbarker," serving as assistant editor and layout editor.
Outside of the classroom, Liu was a five year member
of the girl's tennis team and worked at the Rockefeller University
Science Outreach Program investigating the effects of iron on
Parkinson’s disease pathology in mouse brain tissue. She also
participated in the 2008 Inaugural Millennium Campus Conference, hosted
by MIT Global Poverty Initiative, as a logistics volunteer where
students engaged in poverty action and development projects over a
three-day period.
Salutatorian Siana Jannesari
Jannesari was enrolled in 12 Advanced
Placement/Honors classes during her high school career and has earned an
overall average of 97.14, highlighted by her designation as an AP

National Honor Society, a class representative for student government,
Model United Nations team member and natural helper.
Jannesari has been a clarinetist with the high
school concert band and wind ensemble for four years, annually
participating in the New York State School Music Association Festival.
She is a four-year member of the girl's varsity tennis team, which
garnered four sectional titles.
In addition to her academic and extracurricular
activities, Jannesari finds time to volunteer as Ronald McDonald House
teen board member, and to participate in various community
service-related events and activities. She plans to attend Boston
College in the fall.
