Voorheesville Central School District
names new superintendent of schools
March 27, 2009 - After a thorough and
extensive search, Voorheesville Central School District’s Board of
Education has selected Dr. Teresa Thayer Snyder as the district's new
superintendent of schools.
“I am delighted to have been selected for this position,” said Snyder.
“Voorheesville is a dynamic educational setting filled with promise. To
begin a new adventure in the company of such positive practitioners is a
very exciting opportunity.”
Snyder is expected to begin her new duties in July.
She holds a doctorate in education theory and practice and is currently
deputy superintendent at the Shenendehowa Central School District. She
is a former elementary school principal, director of Emma Willard and
superintendent of Brunswick Central School District. She also has
experience teaching at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Snyder has served as an adjunct instructor, teaching and mentoring
aspiring education leaders at The College of Saint Rose, Sage Colleges
and Siena College.
“Besides her demonstrated management ability and energy, we are excited
about Dr. Snyder’s vision of assisting each child to achieve his or her
full potential,” said Board of Education President David Gibson.
“Especially relevant for Voorheesville is her enthusiasm for using all
types of information and professional development to support teachers in
a culture of continuous improvement, while being fiscally responsible.
Those we interviewed described her as a collaborative leader who brings
a high level of integrity, caring, energy and intelligence to the tasks
at hand.”
Voorheesville’s Board of Education chose Snyder after a seven-month
search process conducted in conjunction with the Capital Region BOCES.
Voorheesville staff, students and community members were involved in the
process, serving on interview committees and attending open forums.
Snyder replaces former superintendent Linda Langevin, who retired in
late August 2008. Raymond Colucciello has been serving as interim
superintendent since September 2008.
The community is invited to meet Dr.
Snyder at an introductory reception in her honor on Monday, April 20,
at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Commons, prior to the Board of
Education meeting.
