First-ever Mr. Voorheesville
competition is a success
Sophomore Max Schuster places first
June 4, 2009—The first-ever Mr.
Voorheesville competition offered residents and students with an evening
full of fun, music and entertainment, as a group of tenth- through
twelfth-grade boys vied for the title.
Students competed in talent, informal wear and formal wear categories,
and were evaluated by a panel of judges, including Miss New York 2008
Leigh-Taylor Smith, athletic director Joseph Sapienza and math teacher
Stephanie Stoyle. Members of the audience were also able to add their
popular votes.
“I had no idea who would win, all of the candidates were so wonderful,”
said event coordinator and volleyball coach Sandy Vorse.
Ultimately sophomore Max Schuster was selected as the winner.
“He is a great representative of our school and community,” said
Sapienza. “He is an outstanding student-athlete and person of character,
which is why it’s appropriate that he will always be remembered as the
first-ever Mr. Voorheesville.”
“Max played the drums well during the talent segment, and also had a lot
of personality throughout the other portions of the show,” said Stoyle.
The event was sponsored by the girls’ varsity volleyball team and the
SADD club. Money raised from ticket sales will go towards funding summer
camp scholarships for the students, funding for the girls’ volleyball
summer team camp and SADD activities.
"I had a blast and can't wait to do it again next year," said Master of
Ceremonies and business teacher Heather Garvey.
