Cheryl Dozier joins Voorheesville's Board of Education

Oct. 10, 2008 – Dr. Cheryl Dozier has spent the
past 26 years shaping students’ futures in the classroom. Now, as the
newest member of the Voorheesville Central School District’s Board of
Education, Dozier will work with the board to select a new
superintendent and elementary principal, as well as engage in
conversations with the community about the district’s curriculum.
“I look forward to participating and contributing as the board shapes
the future of the school district,” said Dozier.
Dozier currently teaches masters and doctoral level courses at the
University at Albany, specializing in teacher preparation for teaching
literacy. Previously, she taught at the elementary and middle school
levels. She and her husband have three children in the
district.
Dozier was appointed to the board on Sept. 10, filling the position left
vacant by former board member Paige Pierce, who resigned on Sept. 8
citing personal reasons. Pierce was elected to the board in 2004. Her
term was not set to expire until June 30, 2009.
New York State law gives school boards three options when members
resign: leave the seat vacant until the next regular school election in
May, appoint someone to fill the seat until the next regular election,
or hold an immediate election.
“We have many duties to perform and felt it was important to fill this
short-term position as soon as possible,” said Board of Education
President David M. Gibson. “We are confident that Dr. Dozier will be an
effective member of our team, and we look forward to working with her
during the 2008-09 school year.”
