Voorheesville places third in The Business Review's annual school
district rankings

Oct. 9, 2008 – The Voorheesville Central School
District was named a top-performing school district by The Business
Review in the Albany-based newspaper’s Sept. 26-Oct. 2 edition.
Voorheesville ranked third out of 85 school districts in the 11-county
Capital Region. Last year, the district placed fifth.
“This is a testament to the hard work of our entire school community,
which is committed to providing our students with the best education
possible,” said Interim Superintendent Raymond Coluciello. “We will
continue to work together to set and reach high standards, ensuring that
all of our students are equipped with the skills they need to compete in
the 21st century.”
The rankings are compiled based on data from the New York State
Education Department, specifically the New York State Report Card for
2006-07.
The newspaper reviews student performance on state assessments and
Regents exams in English Language Arts, social studies, science and
math. They also take into account the percentage of students who
graduate with a Regents diploma or a Regents diploma with advanced
designation and the percentage of seniors who plan to attend college or
some other form of post-secondary education.
Ninety-six percent of 2006-07 Voorheesville graduates received a Regents
diploma, while 68 percent received a Regents diploma with Advanced
Designation. Additionally, 96 percent of graduates planned to pursue
study at two or four-year colleges or universities.
