SUNY historian to present lecture on The
Beatles and cultural change in the 1960s-70s
Few people are more associated with the
social and political upheaval of the 1960s and 1970s than John
Lennon and The Beatles, and SUNY historian Terry Hamblin explained why during a lecture at Clayton A. Bouton High School on
Tuesday, April 8.
Professor Hamblin’s lecture, “You Say You Want a
Revolution: John Lennon, The Beatles, and the Politics of the 1960’s and
1970’s,” examined the Fab Four's music and lyrics and how they
reflected and influenced various social, political and cultural
movements that emerged during the time.
Hamblin is an associate professor of history and
economics at SUNY Delhi and earned a doctorate U.S. History from Stony
Brook University. As a historian, he frequently lectures publicly
on topics relating to United States history, cultural diplomacy, and
foreign relations.
The multimedia lecture was presented to ninth-
and 12th-graders and was open to the public. It was held in the high school’s
Performing Arts Center.
The lecture was brought to Voorheesville by the
National History Club through the New York State Council of the Arts’
lecture series “Speakers in the Schools.” For more information on the
