Seniors named Scholar Athletes by local sports foundation
Two Voorheesville high school seniors were honored
recently for their academic and athletic success.
Kristen Lysenko and Kevin Klembczyk were named
Scholar Athletes by the Sports Foundation of the Capital Region.
Lysenko was a four-year member of the girls varsity volleyball
team and has
maintained a 95.25 average in her course studies. Klembczyk plays
soccer, basketball and baseball and has maintained a 97 average in his
course studies.
Lysenko
plans to pursue a degree in biology, health and society at Cornell
University's College of Human Ecology. She was a member of the high
school volleyball team also played club volleyball with
North Country Albany Juniors for two years. As a setter on the high
school team, she was named first team all-conference as a
senior and second team all-conference as a junior. She was selected as
the most valuable player of the 2007 Voorheesville Volleyfest and was
named to the 2006 All-Tournament Team. The high school volleyball
team made it to the state tournament earlier this year and finished
third in the state in Class C.
Lysenko and Klembczyk were among 135 students from
the area who received the award from the non-profit foundation, which
given out the awards for 16 years. The foundation’s mission is to
promote the Capital Region through sports.
