Superintendent Langevin to retire at the end of the
summer
Board of Education to seek interim
superintendent
After three years of
dedicated service to the Voorheesville Central School District,
Superintendent Linda Langevin has announced that she will retire at the
end of the summer.
Mrs. Langevin submitted
her letter of resignation to the Board of Education at its April 23
special Board meeting. In the letter, Mrs. Langevin explained that the
decision to retire was prompted by family health concerns.
Board President David
Gibson accepted the resignation on behalf of other Board members.
“It is with deep regret
that we accept Superintendent Langevin’s resignation,” Mr. Gibson said.
“We thank her for her loyal and dedicated service to the District.
Neither the Board nor Mrs. Langevin could have anticipated the necessity
of this unexpected resignation, but we appreciate Mrs. Langevin’s need
to attend to her family.”
Board members will be
negotiating with a candidate to serve as interim superintendent through
the 2008-09 school year. During that time, the Board plans to work with
Capital Region BOCES to conduct a search for a new superintendent.
“I hope the district
and the community understand that this is not a decision that I came to
lightly. It has been a privilege to serve the Voorheesville Central
School District, and I am confident that the strides we have made in
addressing opportunities for children will continue to serve the
district well into the future.”
Reflecting on her
tenure, Langevin said her achievements included renovations to the
elementary school, which should be completed later this summer, expanded
computer and technology programs for students, and the use of
data-driven evaluations to support student academic progress. Langevin
acknowledged that none of these achievements would have been possible
without the support of the Board of Education and community, and
collaborative team effort by the administration and staff members.
“Board members and the
school community have been extraordinarily supportive of suggestions I
have made to help the district strengthen its Educational programs,”
said Langevin. She has also offered to volunteer to continue to work in
the area of student achievement with the district following retirement.
