History comes alive!
There weren’t ghosts and goblins wandering the halls of Voorheesville
Middle School this Halloween.
However, Vincent van Gough could be seen ambling through the halls with
a bandage on his ear, and the sashes of several Egyptian goddesses
swished together as students walked to class.
Following VMS tradition, students took part in "Character Day" this
Halloween, dressing as the famous men and women from history they are
studying in their classes. In addition, students made presentations to
their classmates about their character’s significant contributions to
history.
For example, sixth-grade students dressed as ancient Egyptian deities
and rulers, Renaissance artists and World War II heroes, among others,
bringing to life the many different time periods the sixth-grade
curriculum covers.
"You
get to learn about other people," said sixth-grade student Jimmy
Pincheon. "You get into further detail and learn things that you didn’t
know about them."

Teachers also dressed up as historical figures and made presentations to
the students.
"This is both a fun and educational activity for the students and
staff," said sixth-grade social studies teacher Sheila Lobel. "It also
gives all of us a chance to dress up and teach others about significant
characters in history."
