Parents as Reading Partners month kicks off with author visit

Prolific local author James Preller came to Voorheesville Elementary School last week to kick off the Parents as Reading Partners program. which will run through the month of November.

Preller, author of the "Jigsaw Jones" mystery series, entertained students and parents on Thursday, Oct. 26, and also signed his books for the crowd.

The event, co-sponsored by the PTA and the Humanities Program, invites children and their parents or guardians to read together every day for 20 minutes, and keep track of their progress.

Children who read with a parent 20 times during the month and chart their progress on a calendar are rewarded with a certificate and a prize at the conclusion of the program.
