Penny war raises money for Children’s Hospital
The Voorheesville Middle School Student Council
collected more than $306 for a program Children’s Hospital at Albany
Medical Center last month.
By holding a penny war, students in grades 6, 7 and 8 battled against
one another to raise money for Students Care for Kids, a program that
supports sick and injured children at the hospital.
In a penny war, each grade receives a bin to collect pennies. In the
end, the grade with the most pennies wins. It has not yet been
determined which grade at Voorheesville Middle School won the
competition!
To counteract the number of pennies in a grade’s collection bin,
students could put coins other than pennies in the bin. For example, a
$1 bill would subtract 100 pennies from the grade’s total.
