Owls visit fourth grade
On
Monday, Feb. 5, wildlife rehabilitator Michele Segerberg brought some
furry friends to the fourth-grade class.
The fourth grade is currently reading Hoot, the
story of what three children do to protect burrowing owls from being
killed by land developers.
Ms.
Segerberg brought four owls – a screech owl, bard owl, great horned owl
and saw-whet owl – to school and a red-tailed hawk. Seeing the birds
helped students make a connection with the book.
In science class, students are studying animal adaptations, focusing
right now on owls.
During science class, students dissected owl pellets to see what foods
that they eat and will be examining different birds' beaks and how they
are adapted to eating particular foods as well.
