Students experiment through computer-based science program
In
order to determine the effect of different stimulus on a frog, students
in Ms. Jessica Bradshaw’s science class went no further than their
laptop computers.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30 students determined the effect of temperature on a
frog’s breathing rate, the effect of drugs on a frog’s heart rate and
the effect of an electric stimulus on a frog’s muscles by conducting a
lab on through a computer program called Operation Frog Deluxe.
"This
is a very interactive program," said Bradshaw. "It’s a culminating
experience for students."
Bradshaw said students recently finished studying the human body’s
systems. Through the computer program, students can learn about a frog’s
external features, mouth, and digestive, reproductive, circulatory and
skeletal systems. Next, they will dissect real frogs.
After monitoring the effects of temperate, drugs and electric stimulus
on the frog, students made graphs and charts to demonstrate their
findings.
