Dr. Raymond
Colucciello returns to District as Interim Superintendent
Search for permanent replacement to begin immediately

September 5, 2008 - A familiar face returned to
Voorheesville Central School District on September 1—Dr. Raymond
Colucciello.
A former interim principal of Voorheesville
High School, Colucciello was appointed as the school district’s interim
superintendent for the 2008-2009 school year upon Linda Langevin’s
retirement at the end of August. She served the district for three
years.
The Board of Education appointed the interim superintendent to allow
ample time for community members, parents, staff, and students to be
involved in the search process before hiring a permanent replacement.
“The Voorheesville community has always supported its school district,”
said Colucciello. “I am looking forward to working with the community,
students, staff, and Board of Education again in my new role.”
Colucciello began his career as an elementary school teacher for the
Scotia-Glenville School District. He retired from Schenectady City
School District as superintendent, a post he held from 1993-2000.
Since retiring, he has worked as an interim superintendent for three
Capital Region school districts: Schoharie, Troy and, most recently,
Ballston Spa, where he served from 2005-2008. He has also served as an
interim principal for four school districts: Albany, Schalmont, Sharon
Springs, and Voorheesville in 2000.
Colucciello earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SUNY
Oneonta, a master’s degree in elementary education from Columbia
University and a doctorate in educational administration from SUNY
Albany.
“Voorheesville has an outstanding faculty and staff, as well as a great
group of students and a board that’s looking toward the future,” said
Colucciello. “The search for a permanent replacement will begin
immediately and will involve all segments of the community, with the
goal being to name a new superintendent in the spring of 2009. The new
superintendent would be expected to begin his or her duties in June or
July."
Capital Region BOCES will be leading the search process, under the
direction of District Superintendent Charles Dedrick. This service is
provided free of charge to component school districts. The search
consultant will help solicit staff, parent, and community feedback on
qualities sought in the next superintendent, screen potential
candidates, and coordinate and oversee interviews of semifinalists and
finalists by the Board of Education and school/community teams.
“Voorheesville is an extremely attractive school district for an
incoming superintendent,” said Colucciello. “We are committed to finding
the best possible candidate for the superintendency.”
