Harvest Celebration, Oct. 2, 2011
Garden to Grill:
Chef Brian Molino (shown in second row, 4th photo and last photo) created a festive
outdoor kitchen and then cooked for the crowd. Students harvested garden
vegetables and delivered them to the outdoor kitchen prep. area. It
doesn’t get any fresher or more local that that! Samples of delicious
potatoes, peppers, eggplants and lots more were offered throughout the
event.
Garden Clean Up:
Webelos Scout Dens 1 and 4, along with garden volunteers and other
participants, did an outstanding job of cleaning up the garden beds.
THANK YOU!
Crafts:
Crafts inspired by nature utilizing recycled and found materials were a
big hit.
Face painting:
Four “tattoo artists” had their work cut out for them as they added to
the overall beauty of an already gorgeous day.
Apple Taste Test:
Almost too close to call, Macintosh eeks out a win over Gala. Both apple
varieties were donated by Indian Ladder Farms.
Potato harvest:
Students dug deep in the rich soil to uncover blue, yellow and white
varieties. Not one potato was left in the bed.
Raffle Winners:
Harvest Basket - Emma Kelly, Biscotti Bowl - Abby Beauregard, Pumpkin -
Jack Keith
Food Drive:
Many bags of groceries were collected and $80 was raised during the
Harvest Celebration. All of it was delivered to the Northeast Regional
Food Bank to help our farmer friends in Schoharie County. Great job
everyone!
