Generalizations related to NAEP data disturbing

As much as I always relish pouring over data and looking at releases of new statistical data sets, I am frequently appalled at the gross generalizations that commonly occur, especially regarding educational outcomes. The media coverage on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results is particularly disturbing.

MS Drama Club to present "Seussical, Jr.," Nov. 18-20

Enjoy the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss and your favorite characters The Cat in the Hat, The Whos, Horton and more during the middle school Drama Club's production of, "Seussical, Jr.," Nov. 18-20.

Voorheesville schools to celebrate American Education Week, Nov. 14-18

Parents and guardians are invited to visit the elementary, middle and high schools during recognition of American Education Week, Nov. 14-18. If you are interested in sitting in on a class at the middle or high schools, you are welcome to come in any day and sign-in at the high school office. We recommend that you check your child's schedule to determine the class you'd like to visit.      At the elementary school, dates have been designated per grade level as follows: Nov. 15- grades K-1; Nov. 16- grades 2-3; and Nov. 17- grades 4-5. Hope to see you in class!

Understanding New York's property tax levy cap

In this first year of New York's property tax levy cap, information about its provisions and implementation continue to evolve. The law has been misconstrued and misrepresented in media sound bites as a “2 percent tax cap.” In fact, the law does not restrict any proposed tax levy increase to 2 percent.
