Help Wanted: Chaperones Apply Within

Here at Voorheesville Middle School, Teen Night is a popular activity that is thoroughly enjoyed by our student body.  But we need your help!

For anyone interested in becoming a Teen Night Chaperone, please call, the middle school main office for details at (518) 765-3314, Ext. 714.

Teen Night Chaperone Guidelines

During Middle School Teen Night there are a variety of activities, and several areas in the building are used. You should have a floor plan of the spaces that will be used and a schedule of your chaperone assignment. As the time comes for you to rotate through your assigned areas, please plan that one chaperone will remain in the area and the other can move to the next assignment. This allows for the chaperones to move to their new areas while still providing coverage everywhere. The following explains the activities in each area:

Cafeteria - Students come to this area to enjoy refreshments. Some snacks are free, and these are located on the tables. Others are available for purchase, and the group sponsoring the Teen Night will operate this sales table. The soda machines should be off or unplugged.
Please monitor the students and warn any students who are not acting appropriately, misusing the food, making a mess, etc. You can ask students to help clean up an area if they have left it a mess. Students may play ping pong as well as board games in this area. Please remind students to use game equipment appropriately

Commons – Dance - There is a DJ who provides the music, lights and sometimes glow sticks. Please remind the students not to run around the commons (the darkness makes it dangerous), and to dance safely. Students should not be lifting each other or pulling each other around the dance floor. Students with food or drink should be sent back to the cafeteria. No students should be allowed to go up the stairs into the senior lounge area or to sit on the tables.

Gym – Basketball - The students usually have several basketball hoops and many basketballs available. They usually take turns shooting baskets and sometimes establish some kind of a point game at one of the hoops.
Please monitor the activity in terms of fairness and respect for each other. Sometimes the students become aggressive, and this can cause problems. If this happens, please ask the student to leave the area for a short time until they cool down, and let a teacher or administrator know if there are any problems.

LGI – Movie - Students come and go in this area and often watch short parts of the movie. There is sometimes popcorn available. Please do not let students touch the audio – visual equipment or any of the musical instruments in the area.

Pool - There are usually two lifeguards in the pool area as well as parent and teacher chaperones. The general pool rules are posted on the door. Do not allow any horseplay.

Hallway - Students should walk in the hallway. They should act appropriately with each other, keep their hands and feet to themselves, and be courteous. Food should be kept in the cafeteria.

Eighth-grade Area - Only eighth-grade students are allowed in this area. There is usually a movie and an area in which eighth-grade students can socialize. No other students are allowed in this area. Eighth-grade students who have permission to be in this area will be designated with a special colored stamp.
