Chituka Village Project Update

(April 26, 2013) At our Elementary School Spirit Day assembly on April 19, Coach Keni Banda was presented with a $600 check from a portion of our talent show proceeds.  This money will go towards shipping costs of donated items from our students, families, and staff.

Our Elementary School was able to collect over 40 boxes of used sneakers, cleats, tee shirts, sports equipment, curriculum materials, and books.  Coach Banda and the shipment container are planned to set sail this July.

The vision of the Banda Bola Sports Foundation is to bring hope to all the children of Malawi in the form of education through sports activities.  Thank you to everyone who donated to this worthwhile cause.

New safety procedures and practices

As you are aware, recent events in our world have caused us to re-evaluate our safety procedures and practices.  These practices are ever-evolving, with frequent building and District-wide safety meetings involving local law enforcement agencies.  At one of our recent meetings involving local law enforcement, safe and orderly dismissal was one of our agenda items.

With a large portion of families picking their children up prior to dismissal, we will be instituting the following changes following winter vacation, commencing Monday, February 25th.  Changes are as follows:

1.  If you are picking your child up in lieu of taking the bus (this does not include those signing their children out earlier for appointments), we will not be opening our doors until 2:50 p.m.  We ask that you arrive as close to this as possible.  Recently, our hallways have been packed with parents arriving over a half hour before the school day ends.  This is disruptive to classes.  Having our hallways prematurely crowded with adults as children are passing through for their afternoon classes and specials also poses a severe safety concern.

2.  In order to keep our hallways clear and our classes/meetings without disruption, we will kindly ask you to wait in the classroom located across from the artwork.  This will ensure our hallways are clear, noise level remains appropriate, and also, that the confidentiality of meetings occurring in rooms within our main hallway are not compromised.

Thank you for your support.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Reardon:  765-3313 ext. 502 or treardon@voorheesville.org.
